Why do socks of the same size look bigger or smaller at first glance?

Sometimes when you look at socks of the same size, some of them appear to be different sizes. This is due to the different materials and knitting of the socks. For example, cotton is a low-stretch material, whereas nylon and polyurethane are very stretchy materials. So a 100% cotton model will look much bigger than a synthetic model. Also, sometimes 2 models have a similar composition but a different knitting, allowing a more or less airy, and therefore more or less stretchy, knit.
